The Party's Over? REALLY...
Ummm, one party is certainly over... the frenzied run up... etc.
But, the BIG WEB PARTY is just beginning for SEEK, XCIT, and others. I just got through reading Motro's remarks in IBD about the "secret software"... interesting. And because it comes from Motro as opposed to, say, an Australian financier (see NETZ), I tend to believe it might be much more than vaporware. I also enjoyed Motro's comments about the shared infrastructure (sales organizations, for example) between WBS and SEEK.
Backing up a moment, though, the sector is suffering from a very common disorder called "me-too-ism": they're all copying each other, etc. XCIT tends to buy its competitive advantages. SEEK, because of Steve Kirsch and a strong technology base, may actually be able to grow its own competitive advantages, i.e., secret software... which oddly enough sounds like something Jack In The Box might offer on its burgers. I'd love to hear speculation as to what this software might be able to do. (Hint: For the software engineers among us, there MIGHT be a hint in SEEK's own job listings.)
We shall see. Mourning the death of Frank Sinatra...
Best Regards,
