YOu know, one thing that may confuse people is IP Telephony vs. Internet telephony. IP telephony means you can send voice over a data channel using the IP protocol. This can be used over any network on that protocal, be it Internet, Intranet, LAN, or WAN. Right now, telephony over the Internet is probably the least desirable from a technical point of view due to things such as latency, delays, unreliability, etc. But it will get better.
