No mention of Aware, but...

TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 1998--PairGain
Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PAIR) Friday announced that it has received
an Innovation Award from the Southern California chapter of the
American Electronics Association (AEA).
Each year the AEA recognizes companies for the development of
ingenious products and technologies. PairGain was nominated and
awarded the honor for the development of Falcon, a single-chip ADSL
(Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) processor that enables the
transfer of data, video and voice communications at speeds of over 8
megabits per second over ordinary copper telephone lines. ADSL is
being used today by telephone companies to deliver high-speed Internet
access and other advanced services to homes and businesses.
PairGain was announced as the winner on Thursday, May 14, at the
5th Annual AEA Innovation Awards ceremony in Orange County, Calif.
More than 250 representatives from technology companies in Orange
County attended the event.
"We are honored that PairGain was selected from such a
prestigious list of nominees from numerous technology companies," said
Ben Itri, PairGain's chief technical officer and co-founder. "The
engineering team that developed the Falcon ADSL solution brought an
incredible amount of expertise to this project, and we are pleased
that they received this well-deserved recognition."
The Falcon chip is the telecommunications industry's first
single-chip DMT ADSL processor. ADSL enables the transfer of data at
high speeds over ordinary copper telephone lines. These rates are
more than 100 times faster than today's prevalent 56 kbps modems and
more than 50 times faster than ISDN.
The Falcon single-chip solution supports the industry standard
for ADSL and will support ADSL "lite," a new version of ADSL that will
simplify modem deployment and make ADSL modems as easy to install as
regular modems, thus making wide scale ADSL deployment feasible and
cost effective.
Recently, PairGain and Rockwell Semiconductor Systems (RSS),
another Orange County-based company, entered into an exclusive
agreement whereby Rockwell will license PairGain's Falcon ADSL
technology. RSS, the consumer modem chipset market leader, will offer
the Falcon chip to retail modem manufacturers and PC OEMs, with
PairGain integrating its Falcon technology into a line of telephone
company central office solutions and high-end modems geared towards
the business user.
