The Universal Browser-Socket Idea

RE: "Robert Bork was quoted in IBD several days ago as saying he doesn't know what a fair (browser) solution is."

A Fair Solution:
Empower the consumer as the ultimate chooser of the browser. Allow an uncrippled choice of browsers in the box maker's set-up (Explorer, Navigator, WebCrawler, etc.). Redesign the Microsoft OS with a "Universal Browser-Socket". What ever browser the buyer selects snaps into the socket and becomes as fully functional as Microsoft's own in-house Explorer.

Requires Only An End to Microsoft's Hide-the-Salami Games:
a) Microsoft would not be allowed to hide critical code or in any other way hinder its browser competitors product functionality within its operating system environment.

b) Microsoft would be forbidden to limit the box maker's choice of browsers to be made available to their customers. These customers belong to the box maker, not to Microsoft. A box maker offering a choice of browsers would be more competitive against one who does not.

Comments?

PS : Do we need to go so far as to forbid Microsoft from distributing Explorer in the same box as the OS?
