I don't know Kurlak's exact motivations for hot or cold recommendations on the sector. It's not what tech investors generally want to hear but there is a lot of truth to it. However, I have been told before by other high tech analysts and brokers when they saw a business, product or seasonal cycle coming (amplified when several factors coincide) that they first tell their major clients to position for the change, such as selling off and selling short. Then they follow up 2-3 weeks latter by issuing stock downgrades and market warnings.

The sectors I am playing with mostly are "hot" tech stocks such as internet and communications plays (very carefully), retailers who have favorable product sources and are leaders in their markets, growth oil service companies and seasonal stocks, such as recreational equipment or golf related stuff. It's a market for sector rotation and to be very selective. The public has more spending money and feels good about job security. The prices for imported goods are very low and electronics stuff is a great bargain. So retailers are raking up better than expected sales, people are taking road trips and major vacations and money continues to flow into the market.
