My belief is that there are two camps competing on high end processors - Intel and RISC solutions.

History shows us that competing against Intel is a bad thing. Intel has dominated and now owns the PC, workstation, and low end server market (1-4 processors). Any peripheral functions that go with these devices, ie graphics, will eventually be owned by Intel.

Intel is a market driven company. They will feature market a product and drive the standard. The AGP (advanced graphics port) is exactly the feature for graphics. No one can compete with their price/performance for compute engine.

Intel's relationship with Lockheed Martin will lock up the graphics for PC's and workstations.

This relationship along with the penetration of NT versus UNIX, will leave very few niche players for HIGH end graphics.

My advice for long term investors - HOLD SGI
