RE: Compaq/Iomega rumor

Interesting. I noticed a similar (Compaq/SyQuest) unsubstantiated rumor on the Yahoo! SyQuest thread (post 9806):

"for all you dorks out there in syqt-land,there is a serious rumor that syqt and compaq will sign some type of agreement in june.now don't ask me how, where, why or anything about this because i can't tell you anything else.just watch the stock.maybe some folks are pulling this thing back to create their own buying opportunity.it's possible.maybe we should be buying instead of watching."

I think I know what Compaq might be doing: Perhaps they've secretly negotiated with both Iomega and SyQuest to not include the other's drives in their boxes in exchange for a boatload of cash from each company. They will use the money to offset their losses on their LS-120 investment, then will incorporate the HiFD into future SKUs and stick-it to all of 'em. <g>
