RE: Quality?

No I am not with a major retailer but we have used Syquest drives since the introduction of the EZ135. When it was dropped to move to the 230, so did we. We have not used the SyJet or SparQ because of the cost and problems with the smaller drives. The higher the speed and capacity, the more delicate the instrument when it comes to Syquest "winchester" technology. I did have one conversation with a person that had a SyJet and he said that his cartridges were riddled with errors and wondered if it was the drive that was causing the problem.

It is my feeling that the Syquest "winchester" technology is a very poor method to use for removable and portable disk drives. If a person is using a Syquest product for archival or backup purposes, they are heading for disaster.

Syquest also has very poor quality control. At times we have brought in 4 new drives and find that only one of them worked out of the box. And this has happened more than once but not lately. Now that is very poor QC! They might be doing this just to get the drives out the door to get revenue, knowing that they will come back and absorb any profit through RMAs but that at least they get a cash flow from it. A sign of a company on it's last leg.

I don't expect Syquest to be around much longer. They are about to take the same fall that Everex did about 6 years ago. The stock shorters are going to be the big winners around here.
