Glaze3D(TM) has been designed to deliver the richest, the coolest and the most vivid true color game performance together with a no-compromise integrated 2D acceleration.
Glaze3D(TM) performance
Delivering four times the performance of any 3D-graphics accelerator chips to be released at the end of 1998, the Glaze3D(TM) graphics processor design is capable of rendering:
400 million single textured pixels per second with trilinear filtering, 400 million dual textured pixels with bilinear filtering, 200 million quad textured pixels with bilinear filtering, or 200 million dual textured pixels with trilinear filtering. Diffuse and specular shading, fogging, anti-aliasing, alpha blending and Z buffering can be enabled in all rendering modes without any performance penalty. Since most of the required pixel filtrate in today's computer games comes from translucent surfaces, the Glaze3D(TM) has been designed to render these at 400 million pixels per second, without a drop in performance in any texturing mode.
The 2D fills and bit-block transfers operate at the speed of 400 million pixels per second. An integrated programmable floating point accurate triangle setup engine drives the rasterization pipeline at the speed of 3 million fully featured triangles per second.
Glaze3D(TM) has been designed right from the beginning to deliver full performance in games and business applications, not just in benchmarks. This is evident in the architecture, which allows features to be turned on without compromising on speed.
Glaze3D(TM) features
Glaze3D(TM) has a complete set of features to support the DirectX(R) and OpenGL(R) APIs. These features include perspective correct diffuse and specular shading, per-pixel and fog table fog, anti-aliasing, stencil operations and full alpha blending. Four simultaneous textures are supported in a single rendering pass with trilinear mip-mapping. Glaze3D(TM) also includes the bump mapping technique now included in Direct3D(R) 6.0 by Microsoft, developed by the same team. Bilinear bump mapping combined with a surface texture is fully hardware supported in a single pass; it allows rich surface detailing to be done without adding polygons to the surface geometry.
A fully 32 bit true color rendering pipeline, true color framebuffer and floating point 32-bit Z buffer offer professional level visual quality to please the demanding eye at resolutions up to 1600x1200, starting from 6OHz refresh rates.
Glaze3D(TM) architecture
Glaze3D(TM) has a tried and tested rendering architecture, no tricks, just pure screaming performance. The architecture has been balanced between speed, features and silicon size to offer a cost-effective single-chip solution for thirsty gamers and power users.
The Glaze3D(TM) graphics processor core is suitable for home and business PCs, consoles, coin ups and set top boxes. Because of its straightforward host and memory interfaces the Glaze3D(TM) graphics processor core can be incorporated into many different graphics accelerators and devices.
To support the diverse requirements of the graphics accelerator market, the performance of the Glaze3D(TM) core is fully scaleable from 200 to 800 million rendered pixels per second.
The speed of the triangle setup engine is scaleable from 3 million triangles upwards and a full geometry processor design is also available for the core, to either supplement the triangle setup engine, or to replace it.
The flexible memory interface is capable of utilizing any memory type, including SDRAM, SGRAM, RDRAM and SLDRAM. The current 6.4GB memory bandwidth required for true color rendering of 400 million pixels per second is achieved using Rambus DirectRDRAM memory. The Glaze3D(TM) uses a 128-bit pipeline to the framebuffer like the other recently announced 3D graphics architectures to debut this year, but thanks to the 40OMHZ operating speed of the DirectRDRAM memory, Glaze3D(TM) achieves the required 6.4GB memory bandwidth.
PCIBuilder(TM)
Thanks to Bitboys Oy's proprietary in-house developed PCIBuilder(TM) development system, a working Windows display driver for the Glaze3D(TM) was ready six months ago and Bitboys Oy is currently working on OpenGL(R) and Direct3D(R) drivers. The PCIBuilder(TM) development system allows Bitboys Oy to develop the software drivers and the hardware in parallel. This revolutionary new technology allows the customers of Bitboys Oy to ship Glaze3D(TM) based hardware with solid, fully working, optimized drivers from day one, solving the serious problem with half-developed drivers common in today's fast moving 3D graphics accelerator market.
Licensing
Bitboys Oy has designed the Glaze3D(TM) graphics processor core to be the ultimate solution for companies looking to beat their competition with the best possible next-generation graphics processor available. Bitboys Oy is currently performance tuning the architecture and starting negotiations on licensing the Glaze3D(TM) technology.
