Indonesia Turmoil Affects Japanese Companies

Japanese-owned business operations in Indonesia are halting
operations and sending staff and families out of the country as
Indonesia undergoes anti-government rioting. Mitsubishi Electric
<TOKYO:6503> has directed its personnel and their families to leave the
country, while NEC <TOKYO:6701> has told its staff to send their
families to Singapore. NEC is shutting down its local
semiconductor factory for three days from May 15. Toshiba <TOKYO:6502>
shut down operations outside of Jakarta the afternoon of May 14.

Two Toyota <TOKYO:7203> factories closed when employees were unable to
report to work, and Sony <TOKYO:6758> stopped making home audio and
televisions when it did not obtain parts. Similar news was
mentioned in Jiji Press on May 15, 1998.

IMAGINE WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO DRAM PRICES IF THIS STUFF STARTED IN KOREA...!
