Mergers will indeed create quasi-monopoly pricing in many industries. A short-term plus. But longer-term this will simply intensify the inevitable public backlash against big business and Wall Street when bull turns into bear. And such merger waves historically have occurred near the top of bull cycles. Current goings on remind me very much of the late 1960s when another merger mania was helping drive stocks to ridiculous heights. Though not as ridiculous as today.
