I have to agree. I don't exactly agree with Christine, but it is more a matter of degree and rational than her general position. I think, as rational creatures, we should not foul our nest. And as much as Father T might want to leave the planet (and I for one wish him God speed) he isn't doing it any time soon. We don't know enough about the planet's systems to know exactly what we are doing to it. So, I personally believe caution and moderation are advisable when proceeding down avenues that may have extremely deleterious effects on the environment. Who can forget what DDT did to our insect and bird populations? Global warming has been hotly debated here- and let's face it, not a meteorologist in the bunch- they talk and talk, but all that comes out is hot air. I am married to a meteorologist/geologist/software engineer and he takes the possibility very seriously. Does that mean he believes it absolutely? No. It means he thinks it is serious enough that it deserves serious study, and consideration- and that it is probably better to act in limited ways now and later find they were unnecessary than to hurry to our own destruction. Capitalism is a fine thing, but there are some things it is hard to value. What value do you place on a world with butterflies and birds? What value is there in a planet whose seas hold whales and dolphins? What value do you place on the cleanliness of the air and water? What value do you put on a stable society? There are many intangibles, that are not freely bought and sold in the market place, which make life more pleasant. Capitalism is, in the end, just a system of distributing "things" based on competition. In my opinion to make it into one's religion is irrational.
