- OT -- On Tech Stocks (may they rot in Hell!)
Doug, Thanks for your tech stock pointers.
To be perfectly frank, I am not likely to make use of them quite yet. The mere thought of buying tech right now makes me nauseous. For years, my portfolio was overweighted with them (it was managed by an "investment advisor" who was literally in love with technology stocks). Thank God, I'm now down to just two (SCI and CPQ), and maybe they will go, too!
The tech sector is too crowded, too competitive, too crawling with analysts, too hysterical, too blah-blah-blah all the time, and WAY too volatile! Enough of the whing-whangs! Gimme cement! Gimme office furniture! Gimme even oil service stocks!
By the way, I feel differently about the telecom equipment stocks. My investment advisor never bought any, so they don't make me nauseous. For the moment, however, I prefer owning them through a telecommunications sector fund (Invesco). I find it hard to evaluate them, individually, and so for the nonce I will "leave it to the experts." I did buy Telebras myself (bought at 120; it went up to 160, and had fallen back to 125 by the time I finally sold it) and Telefonica de Espana (sold when it had fallen 12% below purchase price, and now it's way up! Boo hoo!).
Seriously, however, I appreciate your taking the time to pass on your advice, and if I ever recover from my wounds I may take it!
