Alex, I just read an article about apes which is very interesting in relation to the question of eating animals. They share a brain feature thought to make humans unique:

search.washingtonpost.com

All of us who have pets certainly wouldn't eat that species, because we know they are capable of fairly complex feelings and rational thought patterns as well, including PLANNING things. Few Americans eat apes, but certainly lots of people in other countries do. I think that if we hung out with cows and pigs we might see the same qualities in them. When you combine all of that with the damage growing grain to feed animals causes to the earth, I just thought it was something to ponder.

The issue of Luddite-type behavior is complex. I am not aware of any environmentalist-type campaigns that I would really consider being Luddite-like. Do you have some examples?
