Christine:

Statistics can be skewed. The longevity rate in Ireland takes into account the higher death rate among infants. It is actually lower in the U.S. because heroic efforts and technology are used to keep babies alive that die elsewhere. This has the tendency to drag down the longevity figures across the board. The greatest longevity in some parts of the world is now known to push 140 years plus.

And the food in Ireland is much better and more wholesome overall than that to be found in the U.S. Take milk as an example. The milk here is generally loaded with antibiotics and other additives that are detrimental over the long run to a person's health and immune system. Many of the additives in American foods are killing Americans. Trans fatty acids have killed more people than cigarettes ever have. The introduction of hydrogenated solid fats in 1908 and later other treated oils and hyrogenated fats coincides with the statistics on escalating cancer rates from the turn of the Century. Evidence shows that packaged "convenience" foods with longer shelf lives have helped contribute to increased heart disease, cancer, some forms of vascular disease, arthritis. . . the list goes on.

You need to investigate more closely and not just pull some source off the Internet as the "gospel" truth.
