Tech Bytes: EDS' bulked-up Year 2000 staff is paying dividends

PLANO, Texas-EDS here beefed up its Year 2000 programming staff by 150 in the first quarter, with
plans to hire another 350 by the end of the year. The move looks to be a good one, as the DP vendor
has acquired seven new Year 2000 agreements in the first quarter.

All seven of the companies signed to the agreements operate globally, including Norwegian Cruise
Lines, Banc One Corp., and Adidas U.S. EDS recruiters continue to hire new programmers touting their
compensation package which includes "no hassle" travel benefits like free dry cleaning and pet care and
a special Millennium Bonus to be awarded in the Year 2000.

"These new contracts are indicative of the positive relationships that EDS is building with CIOs around
the world," said Stuart Reeves, executive vice president of EDS. "For those non-believers who thought
the Year 2000 problem was just technical trivia, the problem is now front and center with their
shareholders, employees and customers."
