Mike,

My impression is that the average Japanese citizen has always been a saver, and that one reason for it is that there is a dearth of company sponsored retirement packages such as 401K, profit sharing, and social security packages. In fact, I am told that if we account for those forms of saving in the U.S. the difference is not all that great but I have no facts to support this. Anyone?
