I look at it this way...
if the DOJ breaks MS up in a way where the parts cannot communicate in any special terms to get an advantage over the rest of competing companies in the industry, then it'll be good for the whole of the industry. MS will have to have a more open approach and APIs to pass on to its broken parts and the rest of the industry.

Hence, the break up, if good for the pieces of MS, will be good or better to the rest of industry.

If the pieces or parts can communicate in special terms, that'd nullify the breakup and make it moot.
