Charles- Rights are typically given in the form of a shareholder dividend. They are similar to a warrant or an option. So if you hold the stock on the record date, you will be likely be given a certain amount of rights based on the amount of your holdings. The rights are typically traded in the market, so you can sell them if you want or you can convert them into stock for the strike amount if you want to hold shares in the new company.

This is very positive if you believe (which I do) that the Embedded Networking division is worth far more than the value of Osicom as a whole is valued. This is one way of realizing shareholder value.
