Dusty,

When it says shareholders of record, that usually means known to the company. If our shares are held in "street" how will the company know about them?

Shareholders of record (on a particular date) means you own shares on that date, and are entitled to the dividend. It's not the company, but the transfer agent who knows about the shareholders. If your shares are held in street name, then the transfer agent knows how to contact all these shareholders -- via your broker.
