New Sony VAIO MicroTowers Offer Big Multimedia Performance in a Small Package New PCV-E200 Series PCs Include DVD-ROM, 3-D AGP Graphics Hardware Acceleration, PCI Audio, Easy Internet Access and Microsoft Windows 98 SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 18, 1998-- Sony Electronics announced today a new line of VAIO personal computers that deliver exceptional multimedia performance in a new smaller MicroTower design. The sleek PCV-E200 Series of VAIO personal computers are just 12-inches tall, and are 50% smaller in overall dimensions than Sony's previous Tower design, yet come complete with 3D AGP graphics hardware acceleration and PCI audio.
Available in early summer, the new models incorporate Intel's Celeron(TM) (PCV-E201/E-203) and Pentium(R) II (PCV-E205) processors for optimum performance and ship with Microsoft Windows 98 and many popular software titles pre-installed.
The new lineup enhances the multimedia experience with MPEG-2 video playback, 64-bit AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) 3-D graphics hardware acceleration, and PCI Audio for exceptional A/V and graphics. The PCV-E203 and E205 also include Sony's 5X DVD-ROM drive with NTSC video output to run new DVD-ROM software as well as playback DVD video titles. Additionally, each model features a K56flex(TM) modem/fax (33.6 kps, upgradeable to V.90) for speedy online access and fax transmission.

The entry-level PCV-E201 comes loaded with components that ensure easy and enjoyable multimedia performance: a 266MHz Intel(R) Celeron processor, 32 MB SDRAM, a 4.3 GB Hard Drive, 24X (maximum speed) CD-ROM, 64 bit AGP 3D Graphics Acceleration, 32-bit PCI Audio, MPEG-1 Digital Video and Microsoft Windows 98. The mid-range PCV-E203 includes a DVD-ROM drive and is expected to feature a 300MHz Intel Celeron processor with increased SDRAM and a larger Hard Drive than the PCV-E201.
