Petz - Re: "they should be producing and selling 4 million to 4.8 million CPU's per week, or 200 to 240 million per year! Somethings fishy, wouldn't you say?"

The "Fishy" part is your neglect of Intel's overall product line.

Nearly every Intel CPU goes out the door with an Intel CHIP SET comprised of 2 or 3 chips.

For example, all 0.25 micron Deschutes are accompanied by an equivalent number of 440BX Northebridge chips and shortly the 450NX chip or 440 GX chip.

In addition, Intel builds the proprietary high speed SRAM chips for the Pentium Pro and soon-to-be-introduced Pentium XEON processor.

More recently, Intel'ls i740 is also taking up wafer starts, although the volume of these chips is much less than the CPU volume.

So, divide your numbers by 2 or 2 1/2, and you will arrive at Intel's CPU manufacturing volume.
