Hi Patrick,

Personally I like ELN (Elan Pharmaceuticals) and CBTSY (Computer Based Training). Neither will make you a millionaire overnight but provide solid long term gains. ELN recently acquired a US company (Neurex, I think) and the share price took a hit on the basis of a dilution in shares issued for this purchase. However, if previous patterns are anything to go by, this current fallback may present a buying opportunity for ELN. IONAY (Ionat Technologies) is a software company providing inter-operability and cross platform development tools. Again, it has had a very good run since IPO early 1997 and in particular over the last 6 month period. May not have much in it for the short term but has long term potential. ESATY (Esat Telecom) is Ireland's main private telecoms carrier but currently only has access to business markets. Also has 45% stake in Irelands second GSM mobile netork. Again, has had an excellent run of recent and is a takeover candidate. Finally, Icon (I'm afraid I don't know its symbols)had a very successful IPO last Friday on NASDAQ. Don't know much about this company other that it operates in the clinical trials business.

There are a number of likely IPO of other Irish companies in the next 12 months on NASDAQ and of particular interest (IMO)would be Trintech and Baltimore Technologies.

As regards the Dublin market, apart from a few "token" companies it is primarily made up of long estabhlished banking, building, property, retail etc. companies but has shown very impressive returns over the last 15 month period.
