Placer gold pieces are found in rivers, and the slopes of the volcano. Some times they are buried under the surface because of erosion of earth from the top of the mountain by rain. The drops are created due to the splatters from volcano eruptions. Carried by wind, they have a certain directional effect on where they land. You should find a rich strike down wind from the peak of the volcano to the river and beyond. How deep should you find gold on the slopes, depends on how old is the volcano eruption and how much land slide. Some large amount of gold still stay at the top of the dead volcano, such as the find in Denver city, Colorado. Klondike gold is still being mined on the slope today, $56 million each year.

And then you have the mother load and vents, where the real high concentration of the gold veins are. BRE-X fraud, maybe yes, maybe no? Some day people will find the gold in Busan.

Then there are gold composition in copper and other elements at different volcanos.
