I'll chip in here with what I remember about hacking the meter, which is that it has the virtue that anyone hacking into a single chip would only gain the information on that chip -- you'd have to hack into everyone individually. Which significantly lowers the motivation for anyone to bother trying. I remember reading this quite awhile ago from company materials, but it would be nice to hear the argument reiterated, as people will be asking.
