I was scanning the "attachments" to the Dec. '97 PRs where Hewlett describes all sorts of results from samples taken and analyzed all sorts of ways (including Fire Assay of gold and silver) by the various labs you mention. If Iridium masks gold in a fire assay, then it is possible that the large amount of Iridium found in the COC samples was not present in the previous samples and could not and did not mask the gold in those fire assays.

BTW, concerning uses for Iridium, I have been informed by an unreliable source that Phizer is exploiting the mystical hardening properties of Iridium in their new product...Viagra.
