"We will sell them all our technology and our components," said Bob Scranton, vice president of technology at IBM SSD. "What they buy is up to WD. We at IBM have found that having hot heads gives you varying capacity, depending on media and electronics. We will give WD the information we have at hand, and, if necessary, we will sell them components that will help them."

I am not an attorney, however it seem to me that forcing WDC to buy any component, even one that goes in a IBM designed drive, might be a violation of anti-trust laws. This means, that RDRT's GMR can compete with IBM's.

There was good news, and not so good news in a latter paragraph in this article;

"It is our intent to remain independent," Haggerty said. "The only thing we don't have is head capability, and now we have a dependable outside supplier."

I hope this last sentence was taken out of context. Maybe today was national bash RDRT day
