WDM will be used for extremely large transport between central offices. It is absolutely necessary to have DCS in the telco's networks to groom the lower rate lines, you know, like DS0, DS1, DS3, OC3... DUH!! I don't believe people are going to magically start using OC3+ pipes to their businesses/homes. Until then, a long long long time from now, people will be using 56, 64 kb/s, 1.544 Mb/s, and so on..... These lines must be muxed/switched to higher rates, then groomed by DCSs for interoffice transport. What an idiot to say something like that, and as another person said, and is so very correct, ATM, frame relay, IP... its all carried over SONET frome the edge of the network all the way to the interoffice connections. It it usually starts at OC-3... Not WDM OC-192. OK, point made, from your friendly TLAB ATM Systems Engineer. |
