I do not buy into your analogy: IBM, Gateway, Dell, Compaq etc. are not Microsoft franchises. (At least not yet.) They do not exist to promote Microsoft or the Microsoft-Way. Its the other way around. These firms are independent customers of Microsoft and they are competitors to one another. Surely there is a point to be made on both sides here, but it is by a mater of degree. I am reluctant to limit the ways that box makers may innovate the computing experience they offer their customers. The product is both Hardware and Software. The end users are the box maker's customers, not Microsoft's. What if Dell or Compaq could could come up with some user oriented enhancements to the computing experience on top of a basic windows foundation that would help sell their product and better satisfy some portion of the consuming public? Where does Bill Gates end and we begin? What price are we ultimately willing to pay for uniformity? HR PS: RE: The recycle bin. It may be spelled "Recycle Bin" but it is pronounced "Trash Can" by everyone where I work. Curious.
