WALTHAM, Mass., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- ThermoLase Corporation (Amex: TLZ - news) announced today that the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared the company's SoftLight(R) laser for skin resurfacing.

The company began development of the SoftLight skin-treatment process after many hair-removal clients reported
improvement in their skin's texture and appearance following hair removal. The skin-treatment process employs the same
low-energy dermatological laser used in the company's proprietary hair- removal process, in combination with an activating
lotion. The laser's energy reacts with the lotion, creating heat and mechanical energy that remove the tough outer layer of dead
skin.

''Now with FDA clearance of our advanced SoftLight skin-resurfacing process, we're very excited to be able to provide
customers with a safe, fast, and effective alternative to CO2 and erbium skin resurfacing -- technologies that have often been
associated with long healing times and potential complications,'' said Gary S. Weinstein, chairman of ThermoLase. ''We believe
the market potential is huge. This new service will be available in all of our Spa Thira locations, as well as through our physician
licensees.''

ThermoLase Corporation has developed a laser-based hair-removal system and, through its CBI Laboratories, Inc. subsidiary,
the company also manufactures skin-care and other personal-care products. ThermoLase is a public subsidiary of ThermoTrex
Corporation (Amex: TKN - news), a Thermo Electron (NYSE: TMO - news) company. More information is available on the
Internet at thermo.com.
