Mohan: nytimes.com It appears that Saudi Arabia is offering its moral support and China is going to hold its nuclear umbrella over Pakistan. Saudis awash in oil, sand and cash, can provide much needed cash to boost the Pakistani economy. According to a foreign ambassador in Islamabad, it appears that the Chinese can reduce India to ashes, if India dares to attack Pakistan. The foreign ambassador does not understand that if India is reduced into ashes by Chinese bomb, the same bomb will reduce Pakistan into cinders. What is better - to be a heap of ashes or a pile of cinders? My point is that India has weapons as a deterrent and not as an offensive instrument. In the meantime will the Indians be sitting on their hands? No way. All the above is for public consumption and to appease, and prevent Pakistan going nuclear. Now it seems that the Pakistanis, if proven pliable, will get nuclear umbrella from China, financial and moral support from Middle East, and financial and military support from western countries. This proves, that whatever India does, it can only benefit Pakistan. It will never hurt. All these moves are not really necessary for Pakistan, because India never used aggression as a foreign policy from time immemorial and promised Pakistan that it will not use nuclear weapons as first strike.
