U.S. vs. Microsoft: Government Sets the Stage nytimes.com

The good gray Times stays on top of things as usual, this time talking about strategy and remedies.

The government sees the Microsoft case as crucial test of how antitrust enforcement can be applied swiftly and "surgically," in Klein's phrase, to protect innovation and competition in the fast-paced field of computer software.

I wonder about that. They talk about getting injunctions in 6 weeks or something. We'll see.

Waggishly, I would say a quick settlement might work to Microsoft's favor, maybe quiet down the transparent, ham-fisted "We are the world" PR defense for awhile. Or who knows, maybe they'll get it to stick, around version 3.0 or 4.0.

Cheers, Dan.
