Very good response Charles. It is common for companies to insert blanks and check samples just to keep the lab honest. Also the samples should be labeled such that the lab has no idea where they came from; ie. you wouldn't label the samples with the hole number and the depth, you would assign them a number like Nax-98-103. It would also be important that the blank or check samples have a similar appearance to the regular samples.
