Thank you for the clarifications. Please excuse the terseness of my posts -- it was not meant as sarcasm, and I hoped for the kind of answer you provided.

I agree that the inability to rely on posted bid/ask quotes is extremely frustrating in option trading, and one of the reasons I have stopped trading options for the moment.

I also agree that an electronic execution system would help prevent this problem -- if you are willing to buy at the ask or sell at the bid, the trade should happen automatically, and I know it does not.

I was perhaps prodded by your original post where you stated your offer was between the bid and ask, which always presents the possibility of nothing getting done, although in other markets one at least has the satisfaction of seeing the order become the best quote on whichever side is relevant. Options have this extra gap in the flow of information, unfortunately.
