Time out! This has nothing to do with anything except that I love it when facts relate to each other. The church modes (system of scales on which most music is based originating in the Middle Ages) are supposed to be based on the scales used by the ancient Greeks (but they really aren't because medieval theorists weren't too good at understanding Greek theory). The first four, the authentic modes, are the Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian and Mixolydian. Later they added more, two of which were the Aeolian and Ionian. I don't know if they were merely paying a general tribute to the Greek culture or they actually matched the mode to a scale they believed originated in a specific area.
Now I'll move out of the way so you and Joe can go at it again. Sometimes I think we need a teacher in the schoolyard for you boys.
