You are arguing in realms in which you appear to be unschooled.

<The cell phone industry manages to achieve it, the disk drive industry did it, the TV industry did it, construction of houses would not be feasible without it and so on. >

And the PC indutry has done it. We have standardized on Windows. We did it willingly, eventhough windows is a private platform. You should read Inside the Tornado. The PC industry strives for a 800 pound gorilla to maintain order.

<The key point is that no assessment of risk is good enough when there exists one competitor who can obliterate your particular company. Even your "primary assessment" won't do you any good once MS starts competing on your turf if you have to get sell your product through the Windows distribution channel.>

This is wrong, and can be proven wrong empirically. Research business risk and synthetic betas. You can also ask Intuit, who has used the Windows distribution channel more effectively than Microsoft has in the aread of personal finance software. I guess it would do no good to ask Peter Norton how valid your theory is.

<Good luck in your search for reality.>

You can find reality if you simply open your eyes and let the light shine in.
