All jokes aside, you really do have a problem with reality don't you.

<I am asking for LOW LEVEL standards like file formats.>

Such as the market declared defacto word processing file format .doc, the market declared defacto spreadsheet file format .xls, or the market declared defacto presentation file format .ppt?

<Windows is only a standard if it is well defined and in the public domain. If you don't grasp that obvious fact then we should terminate this discussion, and I will let you ponder why open standards are important the next time you put A4 into your copier but you only have 8 1/2 by 11.>

Are you living in a .org bureacratic how-to manual. The marekt decides standards, nothing else. No public domain, no .org's, no special interest groups and no governments (at least in the pre-1998 US). The market has declared Windows a standard. If you don't like it, close your eyes or better yet use Unix or a Mac, but keep in mind that if at least 75% of the market switched with you, the standard will remain the same.

BTW, suppose the rest of the world started using 8 1/2 by 17 and you kept using your "standard" 8 1/2 by 11, wouldn't you feel silly when your papers is so much smaller than mine? :-)
