Darleen: Increased pricing power undoubtedly is a key factor behind many of these mergers, not just the ability to cut costs. Why do you think Wall Street loves them so much? Look how the airline stocks have soared as competition faded and travelers could be screwed with impunity. This is one reason why a huge backlash against the current financial and merger mania is inevitable.
