ZNV-
you don't get it. As a practical matter, go explain to a non-technical family member how to buy a used PC with appropriate monitor and modem, and get the system installed and working.
I do not mean YOU do it for them, I mean if it is so easy, explain it to them on the telephone. I can tell you have computing expertice and not much contact with the great masses of computer illiteratti. The ignorance is overwhelming- yet people need to get on the web.
If that is too hard, take a non-technical friend to a store, and try to help them configure a pc for under $1000 with a monitor. No way. As nice as the HP's are, it is still windows, and it is still going to cost you $1100 by the time you leave the store.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I have tried what I'm asking you to do, and my conclusion is Apple is the way to go, and the iMac would be perfect for my wife's parents. My dad runs NT, win95 and Unix- I think he would like an imac for different reasons.
