"Siebel Systems Successfully Completes Integration with Scopus Technology"
biz.yahoo.com
According to this press release, Siebel 99 will have complete Siebel/Scopus integration -- one data model, one architecture, a clear upgrade path for all customers. Release date in the Fall of 98. I'm kind of confused by Tom's remarks that "The integration of the two companies is complete - plain and simple. Our people are integrated,...products integrated...support organizations integrated". It doesn't sound like that products are fully-integrated now (how could they be?)
A couple of random observations:
+ Except for the addition of Ori, no SCOP senior management additions to Sebl. Ori's role sounds kind of fluffy. I think that Tom would really define corporate strategy. Technical and business strategy would still be driven by Siebel, House, Schmaier and Ramsey (IMO).
+ The former SCOP and SEBL product lines are still clearly separate. The SCOP products are Siebel ServiceTEAM (note we still have a Siebel Service Enterprise offering), QualityTEAM and WebTEAM.
+ Siebel 99 has one datamodel, one UI (the Siebel 98 UI) -- As I would have expected.
+ Siebel 99 available in the Fall of 98. If they pull this off, they will be moving at light speed! This seems very unrealistic to me, however, I reiterate my respect for Siebel's development organization. They may be able to do this.
+ Clear migration to Siebel 99 for all Scop product lines. Note the emphasis on Scop migrating to Sebl. Clearly existing scop users have the biggest migration challenge. I still contend that many (most?) of these users will stay on scop because of the migration challenges.
+ Special promotion!!! 50% off if you buy now <g>. So, If I am a scop 'ServiceTEAM' user, do I have to buy the Siebel Service Enterprise in order to upgrade? Don't some of the overlapping products go away in Siebel 99? As a Siebel 98 or Scop user, I wouldn't buy anything other than what's on the Siebel 99 product list.
+ "Unanimous Industry Endorsements". Sales guys, you gotta love them! Reading this kind of stuff always makes me chuckle.
Although there's a lot of sales happy-talk in this announcement, I think that it is significant in that: 1. the future technical direction is crystal clear: everything will be assimilated into the sebl architecture, 2. Sebl has defined the Siebel 99 release and has set very aggressive dates, 3. Sebl's new organization in place.
They went way over-the-top on the 'unanimous industry endorsements'. Having a very suspicious nature, I'm interpreting these endorsements as a substitute for a strong Q2. |
