Jim, you're making unwarranted assumptions. These past couple of quarters have been impacted by some severe hardware drops. The one that seems to me to be the biggest is in disk drives. But I think it's a mistake to simply extrapolate. The other point is that less profitable computer-makers cannot afford to drop prices much further without getting into severe financial trouble. Since demand is increasing at a presumed rate of around 15% per year, there will be floor below which prices will not go. Remember, Dell assembles according to a JIT model, and so it doesn't have the inventory exposure of companies that manufacture, warehouse inventory and use channels. Finally, Dell is migrating toward a greater proportion of servers and notebooks. For example, I reported earlier that Boeing intends to buy Dell docking stations company-wide.
