Dougin,
>>UUnet of Wcom has lots of backbone, but less retail. Good move by Bernard Ebbers, as usual.<<
Just curious. You say UUnet of Wcom. Would you happen to know the breakdown of UUnet's backbone facilities, as a function of what percent of it they lease from whom?
This is pertinent MCI Thread Talk, IMO, since MCI will be getting into bed with both WCOM and UUnet. It would be nice to know how well that bed is made, right down to it's "core and fiber."
For example, UUnet's backbone is made up of:
WCOM Native =___%, MCI=___%, IXC=___%, etc.___ ___ ___
Other questions I have, and I should have the answer to these but I don't, just some vague notions, are:
1. what constitutes WorldCom's _internal_ backbone? i.e., North American Hierarchical (or plesiochronous, asynchronous T1, T3 565) vs SONET, how many rings they have, miles of single mode and what generation it is, etc.
2. which of its acquisitions over the years did they inherit most of this backbone from,
3. who do they have their major fiber swap arrangements with,
4. what did they pull themselves? and
5. the part that belonged to Wiltel... is it upgradable to WDM?
6. to DWDM?
WCOM's BB and core infrastructures have always been somewhat of a mystery to me. Probably due to all of the smoke and dust caused by all of their many acquisitions. Would someone here kindly clear the smoke for me, or point me to a location where I could do the research?
Thanks, and Regards,
