Well, I hope you're right, I'd love to see a 300 MHz K6-2 posts the same kind of Business Winstone98 scores that a PII-400 does. But I'm pretty skeptical. Even if the chip posts a 10% improvement (see Petz's post), that doesn't kick the performance up to 400 MHz levels. Moreover, if I remember correctly, the data sheet Petz referred to actually said 10% was the high end of the range for improvement, actual results were 2-5% improvement over a vanilla K6 from refinements in the core. In any case, equivalent 3D performance to a PII-400 is about what I would expect given what I have read about the 3DNow instructions.

So, I guess I might call my "qualification" realistic common sense.

I'll be happy just to see a 350 MHz version of the K6-2 introduced. That would be big news, putting AMD one speed grade behind Intel (and even faster for optimized 3D games).
