Partially correct Bob, SOME scanners use a proprietary card ONLY available from that vendor. If the scanner you chose falls in this category, then other SCSI devices cannot be connected to it. Also note that these devices may not achieve normal SCSI performance.

This usually occurs in low cost models. These are usually quite limited in their functions/use. Like greyscale, res, paper size, etc. The key is to understand the difference, know the specs of a device before purchase and then choose whats right for you.

The place to start is understanding what you will do with the scanner and therefore what features you need.

PS Carefully consider the consequences of purchasing an outmoded MB which guarantees the MB, CPU and mem are throw aways when you move to your next computer.
