Thank you "father". I really do appreciate it, and frankly, I think it is a travesty that India is not a permanent member of the security council. Yet, to bring all those point to the fore, it would have been sufficient for India to make a simple statement to the effect that they have mastered the technology and at most (if the world did not believe) blow one, but five?
Let say that India already decided to pay the "political capital" of nuclear parriah (by sooner or later blowing these devices), would it not have been better to blow one, announce that additional tests would continue (then at least they could derive some marginal technical advantage) until such and such is renegotiated including the standing order of nations (do we really need a "standing order of nations"?)
Finally, to Stitch, I am of the opinion that the dismantling of the "evil empire" (and Yougoslavia) was the greatest political mistake of the last 20 years, history will eventually place the blame where it belongs, the US and the Bush administration. We have replaced a single powerful country with countless small dominions each fighting with each other wasting resources on new defense initiative, and now we'll never know who to deal with in a rational manner in matters "nuclear". The Kaz are still sitting on some of these and so are the Ukrainian.
Of course plunging 300 MM people into a 20 years mahem, was not too helpful either. I have a very long list on this subject, but we are on the Asia thread, so, I'll stop here.
