Jim. It is possible that ADSL is finished before it got started.
FTTN/VDSL combination may provide a more long term
solution and much more bandwidth. If the cost of
reconditioning the loops for ADSL is the same as or
even higher than bringing fibre closer to the users, there is
less economic justification to pick ADSL.

As for how much bandwidth do the telcos need, I have
noticed that fewer people now think internet is "data" and
that it is different from VOD. I think that if the bandwidth is
available the internet will use it, including delivery of
high definition TV.

My bets are on AMTX/VDSL.
