Techie, when PCQuote gets cranky like when it can't talk to papa, it can freeze itself for me in Win NT. Doesn't kill my machine but I have to hammer it from the task bar by choosing close there and then telling the dialog that pops up to bomb away (or exit).

As for no horiz scroll in MSG_APP, try using the title bar to move the left side of the window off the screen and then making the window wider by grabbing the right edge and dragging it. Not sure if this will work. I run at 1280x1024 and I can make the MSG_APP window what appears to be just a little wider than my screen this way and that is enough to see the largest text line in the window for me. But I can't make the window arbitrarily wide. Don't know if the limit is the screen dimension or something else.

I run NT precisely because I believe it to be more robust against rogue apps and don't want to have to reboot my machine since I usually have about 10 browser windows open to some sites and a few other things in addition to PCQ. Getting going is a real slog. Found I was using 50+ MB of memory with everything open so upgraded to 64 MB recently with mem so cheap - added 32MB for $200.

Hadn't heard MCI had a problem today. Since that is my ISP, maybe that explains some of my problems. But I still have my old ISP (earthlink.net) for the time being and I tried that and still had problems. Just got an upgrade ROM for my USR Sportster and put it in a few days ago, about when some net problems seemed to show up. Coincidence or Unsolved Mystery? Went back to the old ROM but didn't seem to make any difference. Even changed to my voice line for awhile but still no difference in problems. I think the single fault theory did not apply today.

I too worry about the Metcalfe meltdown scenario. Some say that trading or getting info for trading over the internet is stupid because it is too slow and unreliable. There are days like today that strongly support their thesis. BTW, everything seems to be working MUCH better this evening. Hope it lasts.

Thanks for your thoughts.
