twister, it seems to me that the three folks who frequent this thread are a little smug about sunw hwp. they happen to be in the same place (underperforming nasdaq) but took different routes. quicken.excite.com i heard l platt speak today. let me tell you the facts twister. hwp has done a clean room version of java for embedded devices and basically will put it in the public domain. they have the backing of msft and four of five embedded os developers. that kind of throws a monkey wrench into sunws plans to make java a profit center. btw, it is 100% compatible, and compliant twister. They just can't talk about it within earshot of sunw's spies. as far as unix goes, hwp is now better posiitoned in unix than sunw is, especially at the high end where hwp's systems are faster and cheaper. platt said that hp-ux runs on MERCED now, and the chip isn't even out for a year and half. hwp has the absolute best ia64 story to tell, BAR NONE. He claimed that sunw was porting a lower end version of solaris to ia64, which puts the intel system at a disadavntage vis a vi sparc. Twister, it's going to be tough for you and i to clean out this barn all the time.
