I disagree with your classification of database as a commodity. For
one thing, it is not very exchangeable. It is not a simply task to
switch your corporate database from one to another. That is one big
reason why Sybase and Informix are still alive and kicking. There are
other reasons why db is not a commodity yet. But really with that
first reason alone the customers will be very careful in picking the
corporate db for their apps.
