I see only one flaw in IDC's survey, i.e., they talked to the wrong people. They talked to the corporate flaks. The CEO's and CIO's all know by now, that the legal vultures are already writing their briefs for Y2K stockholder suits. They're just waiting for a company to stumble, before they descend and start picking away.

So, of course, the CIO is going to say, "We have everything under control". They would have gotten the same results if they had talked to the head of PR.

I doubt that anyone really wants to know how bad this could be. If they did, they would really dig and find a pogrammer or two in each company who is an indian on the Y2K project and conduct a completely anomymous survey. That's where you'll find the truth.
